Challenge for 10.10.17
First challenge! I may extend this a few days until we start building members.
Let's keep it simple: draw something interesting in your room. An object you find interesting, or a small area of your room such as your desk.
If you want to really challenge yourself, try drawing a corner of your room in perspective.
Later challenges might be more imaginative, but I think it's always important to practice drawing from life now and then.
Please post your work below - and remember we're all at different places, so don't compare yourself to others, except to learn more. (:

Re: Challenge for 10.10.17
Decided to draw the desk I'm mostly working on lately and try a really exaggerated point of view since I haven't dealt with that in a long time and need to practice more with two-point perspective! Also taking some....artistic liberties such as leaving out most of the mess on top that wasn't sure how to make fit lol I had a lot of trouble with the left side of the drawing, I wasn't sure on exactly how to keep the perspective and render the height of the desk, but I think I managed it pretty well? Overall I'm pretty happy with it though, it was a pretty good exercise

I still need to add detail but its my glass jewelry holder and a big paper flower on top. Made things a bit darker but oh well.

@dqnte you did amazing omg!! you don't know how excited i am that someone chose the challenging option haha.
as for the left side of the drawing, i think you did really good (i especially love to look at the printer and the notebook on the right side lol the perspective even on the tiny details is very nice) but i see what you're saying about it seeming exaggerated. what is tricky about the way you drew it is the left leg is *technically* in perspective according to the lines, but only if separate object from the desk but not actually part of the desk. so when you check if it matches up it looks right. but if you take the center corner of the desk - the point where the two lines meet - visually with a ruler or with your pencil draw a line down vertically straight from that corner. meet the two points further down from the table on that line. i may be wrong but i believe the legs should be contained within that box. so you can make it as exaggerated as you would like depending on how far down you'd like to go, but it needs to be within that box for it to make sense. also, if you change it, the drawers to the right would have to be adjusted to correspond, which i think maybe the bottom line on the drawers is off because you used the current legs as your reference point.
the way i do it that's easier for me is, even if it's an object with a lot of negative space underneath (like a desk or whatever) is ignore the negative space for a minute and look at the entire form, so the desk would look like box, rather than the box is the table with legs added to it. then i would go in and draw the legs. you may already have done this, i don't actually know what order you drew it in. let me know if i'm saying things you already know or being obnoxious/unhelpful lol!
regardless you are still on the ball when it comes to perspective which is great because it's probably the most underrated/practiced skill in art and definitely one of the most important. and also i really love it

@deerdiadem yay i'm glad you ended up doing it! at first i thought the flowers were smoke which actually makes for a cool effect! is that holder shiny/reflective? stuff like that is really great for practicing value studies because the reflective quality is so dynamic and crisp. that's usually the type of objects i use to practice (especially when i don't know what to draw or don't want to think about it lol)
Re: Challenge for 10.10.17
@loele it is shiny! Since its clear I'm havin a lot of trouble showing that! Also I'm not sure how to share with a mechanical pencil but i would like the shade the entire flower eventually.

@aikycosette thank you! It's really just practice and patience honestly, I' m sure you can do it as well!! I really like the color palette you're using, it's so soothing
@loele ohh I see what you mean, it definitely helps! I think I'll do it on top with another color just to document the changes and remember it for next time hahaha these were things I knew, but I still appreciate immensely because I haven't done it in such a long time I forgot about it!
